In the plateau east of Bakhchisarai is the town of Calais. For many years, on an anhydrous earth people building houses, temples and fortresses. Such an ancient city that is forgotten even its founders and its old name. It is full of mysterious places of tourist attraction. After going a long way to the mountains, you'll be rewarded with ancient towers, mysterious caves and abandoned streets of the city. Main street riding are considerably broader than the other, both sides it is surrounded by limestone pavement slabs, and the old two-storey houses with gray tiles firmly set. The whole atmosphere puts in ancient times.

In the VI century, there grew the grapes and built houses Alans, but in the XIII century the Tatars conquered the city and named Kirk Op which means "city of forty fortifications." A hundred years later Karaites moved here (the Jews from Khazaria) and Hajji Giray Khan made the old part of town for his residence. With the advent of the new town of Khan turned into a stone confinement for prisoners. Here in the dungeons stunted Hetman Potocki, Basil, Grozny, but especially long been captivated by Prince Sheremet'ev, which was the ransom for Kazan and Astrakhan.

Prince was released after 20 years and died after six months in Russia. In XVII century the Tatars left the city, and the Karaites lived in it more than 200 years. The city became a "Jewish fortress" - Calais. Since the beginning of the twentieth century, the town was deserted. There are many legends about the secret staircase, and at the same time attacking the soldiers and from the rear and from the fortress. It is amazing how during the siege of the city lived without water.

In 1998, scientists discovered buried well, which led to the gallery and a large underground water system depth of 45 meters. What made haste to destroy the inhabitants of what was done with such difficulty that the mysterious inscriptions mean and who built the underground galleries and wells remains a mystery waiting to unravel.
